At a glance

The card in three decisions.

Chase Sapphire Reserve (better known as CSR) is Chase's premium personal travel card. Its broad $300 annual travel credit is unusually easy to use, while lounge access, 4X on flights and hotels booked direct, 8X through Chase Travel and primary car-rental damage coverage create a strong package for frequent travelers. The tradeoff is a $795 annual fee, which keeps CSR at a 3/5 Keeper Card score rather than making it an automatic long-term hold.

The card is a full 5/5 Coupon Book: up to $500 annually for two qualifying prepaid stays with The Edit, up to $300 in semiannual Sapphire Exclusive Tables dining credits, up to $300 in semiannual StubHub and viagogo credits through 2027, monthly DoorDash promos, and temporary Lyft, Peloton and Apple subscriptions or credits. Those benefits can be valuable, but only when they match spending that would happen anyway; activation, booking-channel, minimum-stay and expiration rules create real breakage.

Best fit

Frequent travelers who will use the broad travel credit and lounge network

Especially relevant when direct flight and hotel bookings are meaningful expenses and premium protections matter.

Current timing

100K is the standard offer, not a recent high

Independent tracking shows a recent 125K elevated level and a 150K public maximum in 2026.

Main watchout

A $795 fee demands intentional benefit use

Many credits are split by month or half-year, require activation, or depend on specific merchants and booking channels.

Current & historical offer

100K sits below recent 125K and 150K highs.

We compare public points offers with public points offers. Referral, branch, targeted and mixed cash-plus-points offers are outside this ladder.

Standard offer 100,000 points
Current offer · exact match Green outline marks where today's public offer fits.
Occasional elevated offer 125,000 points
Recent elevated level Independent tracking shows a public 125K level before the current offer.
Tracked maximum offer 150,000 points
Public maximum · April 2026 The 150K public offer had expired by June 2026.

Timing assessment

A valid current offer, but not the strongest recent time to apply.

100K is 25,000 points below the recent 125K level and 50,000 points below the tracked 150K maximum—20% and 33.3% lower, respectively.

Why someone may still apply

Card fit can matter more than waiting for an uncertain future offer.

Apply only if the $6,000 spend is ordinary planned spending, the $795 annual fee makes sense and Chase's eligibility language does not rule you out.

Card benefits

Flexible travel value leads; lifestyle credits add complexity.

The tiers are a Points Brief editorial assessment of decision importance and rarity among premium personal travel cards—not labels supplied by Chase.

Tier 1 · Rare differentiators

Benefits whose scope or ease of use can materially change the premium-card decision.

Up to $300

Broad annual travel credit

Automatic statement credits apply each account-anniversary year across eligible travel—no airline, hotel or portal restriction.

  • Eligible purchases receive statement credits automatically.
  • The benefit resets each account-anniversary year.
  • Credited purchases do not earn Ultimate Rewards points.

Know the limits: Know the tradeoff: the credit reduces the effective fee only when it replaces travel spending the cardholder would make anyway.

Up to $75K

Primary car rental damage coverage

The current Guide to Benefits covers eligible theft and collision damage worldwide with primary treatment in most cases.

  • Use the card or eligible rewards for the entire rental transaction.
  • Decline the rental company's collision damage waiver.
  • The primary renter and permitted additional drivers are covered.

Know the limits: Know the limits: this is not liability or medical coverage. Vehicle, rental-duration, geography and documentation exclusions apply; coverage is excess for New York residents with personal auto insurance.

Tier 2 · Strong, but available on some peers

Premium travel benefits with meaningful value and material conditions.

1,300+ Airport lounge network

Complimentary access to Chase Sapphire Lounges by The Club and participating Priority Pass lounges, with up to two guests under Chase's current public terms.

Priority Pass enrollment is required. Participating locations, guest rules and access policies can change; Chase's issuer-stated dollar valuation is not cash value.

Up to $500 The Edit hotel credits

Up to $250 per qualifying prepaid booking through The Edit, up to $500 annually.

Each booking requires a two-night minimum. Credited purchases earn no points, and portal pricing, cancellation and hotel-loyalty treatment can differ from booking direct.

Up to $100K Emergency evacuation and transportation

Coverage can apply when a covered traveler becomes seriously ill or injured on an eligible trip and emergency evacuation is medically necessary.

The trip must generally be at least five days, no more than 60 days and more than 100 miles from home. The benefit administrator must authorize and arrange services in advance.

Tier 3 · Expected premium-card support

Useful protections, credits and services that should not be valued at face value automatically.

Dining, entertainment and partner credits Coupon book

Separate semiannual dining and StubHub credits, monthly DoorDash promos, and temporary Apple, Lyft and Peloton benefits each carry their own enrollment, merchant, cadence and expiration rules.

Trip cancellation, interruption and delay Guide controls

Cancellation and interruption coverage is limited to covered reasons and up to $10,000 per covered traveler, $20,000 per trip and $40,000 per 12-month account period. Trip-delay reimbursement has separate triggers and limits.

Baggage protections Guide controls

Delayed- and lost-baggage benefits may apply after qualifying triggers, waiting periods, common-carrier reimbursement and documentation requirements.

Purchase protection and extended warranty Retail baseline

Eligible purchases can receive time-limited damage or theft protection and one additional year of eligible U.S. manufacturer warranty coverage, subject to caps and exclusions.

No foreign transaction fees Travel baseline

No issuer foreign-transaction fee on purchases made abroad; merchant dynamic-currency-conversion choices can still add cost.

Roadside and travel assistance Service benefit

Roadside assistance and travel-support services have their own covered-event, service and cost limits; assistance coordination is not unlimited free service.

Comparison method: Premium personal travel cards, including American Express Platinum, Capital One Venture X, Citi Strata Elite, Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant; public product positioning reviewed in July 2026. Tiering is editorial, and a public page's silence is not proof that a competing benefit does not exist.

Earning rates

Direct travel earns more without forcing every booking into a portal.

Rates shown are total points per dollar on eligible purchases after the $300 annual travel credit is used. Merchant coding and Chase's current terms control.

8X

Purchases through Chase Travel

Includes eligible bookings through Chase Travel and The Edit. Portal pricing, cancellation and loyalty treatment may differ from booking direct.

4X

Flights booked direct

Eligible airfare purchased directly from airlines after the annual travel credit is fully used.

4X

Hotels booked direct

Eligible hotel purchases made directly with hotels after the annual travel credit is fully used.

3X

Dining worldwide

Includes eligible restaurant purchases, takeout and delivery based on merchant coding.

1X

All other purchases

One point per dollar on purchases not eligible for another rate.

Credit interaction: Credit interaction: purchases reimbursed by the $300 annual travel credit do not earn points; the higher travel rates begin after the credit is fully used. Temporary 5X Lyft earning through September 30, 2027 and 10X eligible Peloton earning through December 31, 2027 are separate from the permanent ledger above.

Redemption & transfer partners

Points Boost can reach 2¢; Reserve retains 1:1 Hyatt transfers.

Select Chase Travel flights and hotels can value points at up to two cents each. Transfers are generally final, and the logged-in Ultimate Rewards screen—not the public partner list—controls the live ratio.

Hyatt distinction

1:1

current reported Reserve transfer ratio

Reserve avoids the Hyatt reduction applied to affected Preferred accounts.

Current specialist reporting says personal and business Sapphire Reserve cards retain 1:1 World of Hyatt transfers. Chase's public partner article lists Hyatt but does not publish numerical ratios, so confirm the live ratio in your logged-in account before moving points. Separately, select Points Boost travel can reach two cents per point.

Distinctive direct access

Programs that help define the Chase ecosystem for U.S. travelers.

  • United MileagePlus
  • Southwest Rapid Rewards
