Closest alternatives

At a glance

The card in three decisions.

The Chase Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful and Amex Marriott Bonvoy Bevy are nearly identical—same $250 fee, same earning structure, same free night after $15K spend. The Bevy is often the better pick because it gets frequent elevated welcome offers (135K and 155K have appeared) and is not subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule. The Bountiful’s strengths are being a Visa card with broader acceptance abroad, and the ability to product-change to the Chase Ritz-Carlton card after one year—a path not available through Amex.

The $15,000 annual spend requirement for the free night is the catch. Like the Bevy, this card sits in an awkward middle tier. The $95 Boundless offers nearly the same earning with a free night at a much lower fee, and the premium Ritz-Carlton or Brilliant deliver substantially more. No statement credits at all—0/5 coupon book, 1/5 keeper.

Best fit

Marriott guests who can put $15K/year on the card for the free night

If you stay at Marriotts and can hit the annual spend threshold, the free night alone justifies the $250 fee.

Current timing

85K is the standard offer—neither elevated nor discounted

The Bountiful has mostly held steady at this level. Elevated offers above 85K have been rare since the card launched.

Main watchout

$15K annual spend required to unlock the free night

No free night in year one without hitting the spend. If you cannot consistently put $15K/year on this card, the Boundless at $95 with a lower free night threshold is the better pick.

Current & historical offer

85K is the standard level—well below the 125K launch offer.

We compare public points offers with public points offers. Referral, branch and targeted offers are outside this ladder.

Standard public offer 85,000 points
Current offer · below launch max 85K has been the consistent public level since the card settled after launch. Green outline marks the current public offer.
Launch offer (Sept 2022) 125,000 points
Extremely rare · launch only 125K after $4,000 spend was the September 2022 launch offer. It has not returned since and is extremely unlikely to reappear.

Timing assessment

85K is the standard—but it is 40K below the launch offer.

The 125K launch offer in September 2022 is extremely rare and has not returned. At 85K, the current offer is the consistent baseline—unlikely to spike dramatically. If the card fits, there is little reason to wait.

Why someone may still pass

The $95 Boundless or premium Ritz-Carlton/Brilliant are better value.

Like the Amex Bevy, this card sits in an awkward middle tier. The $95 Boundless offers nearly the same earning with a free night at a lower fee. The premium Ritz-Carlton or Brilliant deliver substantially more for the higher fee. Only pick the Bountiful if you specifically want 4X dining/groceries and the 50K free night at $15K spend.

Card benefits

The free night award is the centerpiece; everything else is support.

The tiers are a Points Brief editorial assessment of decision importance and rarity among comparable mid-tier hotel cards—not labels supplied by Chase or Marriott.

Tier 1 · Rare differentiators

Benefits that set the Bountiful apart from other Marriott cards at this fee level.

50K

Free Night Award after $15,000 annual spend

Every calendar year after spending $15,000 on the card, receive a Free Night Award valid for one night at a property with a redemption level up to 50,000 points. This is the benefit that makes the card worth considering.

  • Award posts after reaching the $15,000 annual spend threshold.
  • Valid at properties with redemption up to 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.
  • Certain hotels have resort fees. Award expires after one year.

Know the limits: $15,000/year is $1,250/month. You need to make this your primary card to unlock the free night. At 2X on non-bonus spend, you are earning only ~$210–$240 in Marriott points on that $15K—the free night is what makes it worthwhile.

15

Elite night credits toward status

Each calendar year, receive 15 Elite Night Credits toward the next level of Marriott Bonvoy Elite status. This stacks with nights earned from stays and other Marriott cards.

  • Credits post each calendar year you hold the card. Limitations apply per Marriott Bonvoy member account.
  • Can be combined with a Marriott business card for up to 30 elite night credits from cards alone.
  • Platinum status requires 50 nights—this card covers nearly a third of that.

Know the limits: This benefit is not exclusive to Chase cards. The Amex Marriott Bevy also offers 15 elite nights at the same $250 fee. If you hold multiple Marriott cards, elite night credits from personal cards do not stack; only the higher amount applies.

Tier 2 · Strong, but available on some peers

Meaningful value with visible restrictions.

Gold Complimentary Gold Elite status

Automatic Marriott Gold Elite status with a 25% points bonus on stays, enhanced in-room internet and 2 p.m. late checkout when available.

Gold is entry-level elite. It does not include free breakfast or lounge access—those require Platinum. The Amex Platinum card also grants Gold status, making this redundant for Platinum cardholders.

Visa Visa acceptance + product change to Ritz-Carlton

As a Visa card, the Bountiful has broader international acceptance than Amex. After one year, you can product-change to the Chase Ritz-Carlton card—a premium $450 card with a higher free night certificate and Priority Pass lounge access.

The Ritz-Carlton path is exclusive to Chase. Amex Marriott cards (Bevy, Brilliant) cannot access it. This is the Bountiful’s strongest differentiator vs. the Bevy.

1K Bonus points per eligible stay

Earn 1,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per eligible paid stay at participating properties booked directly.

At ~0.7–0.8 cents per point, this is roughly $7–$8 per stay. Requires booking directly with Marriott—third-party bookings do not qualify.

Tier 3 · Expected card basics

Standard Chase and Visa protections.

No foreign transaction fees Travel baseline

No issuer foreign-transaction fee on purchases made abroad. Standard among travel and hotel cards.

Points don't expire Card baseline

Points remain active as long as you make a purchase on the card every 24 months. Standard across Chase co-branded cards.

Trip cancellation and interruption Visa Signature

Coverage for eligible prepaid travel interrupted or cancelled for covered reasons. Payment and claim requirements in the Guide to Benefits control.

Baggage delay and loss protection Visa Signature

Coverage for eligible delayed or lost baggage on covered trips. Trigger amounts and documentation requirements apply.

Purchase protection and extended warranty Visa Signature

Eligible purchases receive time-limited damage/theft protection and warranty extension. Terms apply.

Refer-a-friend bonuses Chase program

Earn up to 200K points per year through Chase’s refer-a-friend program: 40K per approved referral for any Marriott Bonvoy card.

Comparison method: Mid-tier hotel co-branded cards including Amex Marriott Bevy ($250), Chase Marriott Boundless ($95), Amex Hilton Surpass ($150) and Chase IHG Premier ($99); official public pages reviewed in July 2026. A public page’s silence is not proof that a competing benefit does not exist.

Earning rates

6X at Marriott is table stakes; 4X on dining and groceries does the everyday work.

Rates shown are total Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar on eligible purchases. Merchant coding and Chase’s current terms control. Points earned from Marriott loyalty status stack on top of card earning for hotel stays.

6X

Marriott Bonvoy hotels

At participating Marriott properties booked directly. Stacks with 10X base Bonvoy points and 2.5X Gold Elite bonus for up to 18.5X total.

4X

Dining and grocery stores

On the first $15,000 in combined purchases annually, then 2X. Includes takeout, delivery and U.S. supermarkets.

2X

All other eligible purchases

Two points per dollar on everything else. Also applies to dining and groceries above the $15K annual cap.

Value context: Marriott Bonvoy points are estimated at ~0.7–0.8 cents each toward hotel stays. Chase Ultimate Rewards can transfer to Marriott, but moving flexible points into a lower-value hotel currency is usually a weak trade. Purchases on this card earn Marriott points directly. The free night award at $15K spend is the primary reason to choose this card over a general travel card.

Marriott Bonvoy program

The broadest global footprint among major hotel chains.

Marriott Bonvoy points are hotel-loyalty points rather than flexible bank points. They can be redeemed for free nights at 30+ brands across 8,500+ properties worldwide. Airline transfers are possible, but often at weaker value. Redemption value varies by property, date and room type under Marriott’s dynamic pricing.
