Card guide · World of Hyatt points
Chase World of Hyatt
Card guide overview
A $95 hotel card with an annual Category 1–4 free night and 5 qualifying night credits. Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency, but the free night certificate has no top-up capability—what you see is what you get. The $15K spend threshold for a second free night is unreasonably high for an entry-tier card.

Closest alternatives
At a glance
Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency, but the card is not the star.
The Chase World of Hyatt card earns 4X at Hyatt hotels (not 9X—that includes World of Hyatt member earning), 2X on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly, local transit and commuting, and fitness club/gym memberships, and 1X on everything else. The $95 annual fee buys a Category 1–4 free night each anniversary year. A second Cat 1–4 free night requires $15,000 in annual spend—far too high to be a practical target for most cardholders.
The card's main limitation is the Category 1–4 restriction on free night certificates. This excludes Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, and most aspirational properties. There is no ability to top up the certificate with points—unlike the IHG Premier. For Hyatt loyalists who consistently stay at Cat 1–4 properties, the free night covers the annual fee. For everyone else, the certificate may go unused.
Best fit
Hyatt loyalists who can reliably use a Cat 1–4 free night
If you visit Hyatt Places, Hyatt Houses, or lower-category full-service Hyatts each year, the free night alone covers the $95 fee. The 5 qualifying night credits help toward status.
Current timing
Up to 60K is above the standard 45K offer
The split offer adds up to 30K more points on $15K spend—but you must optimize 1x-category spending across 6 months to capture the full bonus.
Main watchout
The Cat 1–4 free night has no point top-up mechanism
Unlike IHG's unlimited top-up system, Hyatt certificates are locked to Category 1–4. There is no way to add points and upgrade the certificate to a higher category.
Current & historical offer
The split 60K offer is above the standard 45K; the 75K split has appeared at the tracked maximum.
We compare public points offers with public points offers. Referral, branch, targeted and mixed cash-plus-points offers are outside this ladder.
Timing assessment
The split 60K is above the standard 45K, but capturing the full bonus takes work.
To get all 60K, you must spend $3,000 in 3 months then optimize $15,000 more in categories that normally earn 1x—steering spend away from the card's 2x and 4X categories for 6 months. The 30K portion is straightforward; the remaining 30K requires planning.
Why someone may apply
A Hyatt free night is worth more than $95 at almost any Category 1–4 property.
Even mid-tier Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties often price above $95 per night. The annual free night alone covers the fee, and Hyatt points are consistently the most valuable hotel currency for award redemptions.
Card benefits
The free night and qualifying night credits carry the card.
The tiers are a Points Brief editorial assessment of decision importance and rarity among comparable $95 hotel co-brand cards—not labels supplied by Chase.
Tier 1 · Rare differentiators
Benefits uncommon enough at this fee level to influence the card decision.
Category 1–4 Free Night Award
One free night each cardmember anniversary year at any Category 1–4 Hyatt hotel or resort. An additional Cat 1–4 free night is earned after $15,000 in calendar-year spend—a threshold that is unreasonably high for an entry-tier $95 card and not recommended as a spending target.
- Certificate arrives after each account anniversary and is typically valid for 12 months.
- The certificate is locked to Category 1–4—no point top-up mechanism exists to upgrade it.
- An extra Cat 1–4 certificate is earned at $15,000 in annual spend—not a practical target for most.
Know the limits: Category 1–4 excludes Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Thompson, Alila, and most full-service urban Hyatt properties. The certificate works best at Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, and lower-category full-service locations. Compared to IHG's unlimited top-up system, this is notably restrictive.
Qualifying Night Credits toward status
Receive 5 Tier-Qualifying Night Credits each calendar year. These count toward Discoverist (10 nights), Explorist (30 nights), and Globalist (60 nights) status tiers.
- Credits are additive—you can earn additional qualifying nights through stays.
- An additional 2 qualifying night credits are earned for every $5,000 in annual spend.
- Globalist status is one of the best hotel elite tiers: confirmed suite upgrades, free breakfast, and waived resort fees.
Know the limits: 5 nights alone will not earn status—you need 10 for Discoverist, 30 for Explorist, or 60 for Globalist. The credits help accelerate status progress but cannot replace actual stays.
Tier 2 · Modest perks, but narrower than competitors
Benefits that add value but should not drive the decision alone.
Automatic World of Hyatt Discoverist Status
Automatic Discoverist status as long as you remain a cardmember. This is the entry-level Hyatt tier and provides modest benefits.
Discoverist includes a bottled water welcome, preferred room upon availability, 2 p.m. late checkout upon request, and a dedicated reservation line. This is meaningfully weaker than Hilton Gold, Marriott Gold/Platinum, or IHG Platinum—but Hyatt status tiers are harder to earn overall, making even Discoverist more valued within the Hyatt ecosystem.
Cardmember rate Exclusive cardmember hotel rates
Access to an exclusive cardmember rate when booking eligible Hyatt properties. The value varies by property and date.
This is a discount on paid rates, not points. It occasionally undercuts public rates but is not consistently discounted. Useful when points redemptions are not available or when cash rates are low.
Tier 3 · Expected travel-card basics
Useful protections and services that should not drive the decision alone.
No foreign transaction fees Travel baseline
No issuer foreign-transaction fee on purchases made abroad.
Purchase protection Retail baseline
Eligible purchases can receive time-limited damage or theft protection.
Trip cancellation and interruption Guide controls
Coverage may apply to eligible prepaid travel for covered reasons.
Baggage delay insurance Guide controls
Reimbursement for essential items after a covered baggage delay.
Points do not expire Card baseline
Points remain active as long as your card account is open.
Comparison method: Mid-tier hotel co-brand cards including Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Hilton Honors Surpass and IHG One Rewards Premier; public positioning reviewed in July 2026. Tiering is editorial, and a public page's silence is not proof that a competing benefit does not exist.
Earning rates
4X at Hyatt; 2X categories are narrower than most competitors.
Chase markets "up to 9X" at Hyatt by combining the card's 4X with World of Hyatt member earning (up to 5X). The card itself earns 4X. The 2X categories exclude gas, groceries, and general travel—the narrowest bonus categories of any $95 hotel co-brand.
Hyatt hotels and resorts
On qualifying purchases at participating Hyatt properties. Hyatt member earning (up to 5X) stacks on top but is not card-specific.
Restaurants, airlines, transit, and fitness
Restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club/gym memberships. Notably excludes gas, grocery, rideshare, and general travel.
All other purchases
One point per dollar on purchases not eligible for a higher rate.
Value context: Hyatt points are estimated at 1.5–2.0 cents each—consistently the most valuable hotel currency. At 4X, Hyatt stays return roughly 6–8% in point value. At 2X, dining and airline purchases return roughly 3–4%. But the narrow 2X categories and weak 1X baseline mean this is not an everyday card—it is best used only at Hyatt and in the 2X categories.
World of Hyatt program
The most valuable hotel points—but the most limited footprint.
World of Hyatt points are consistently valued at 1.5–2.0 cents each, far above Marriott (0.7–0.8), IHG (0.5–0.7), and Hilton (0.4–0.6). But Hyatt's footprint is the smallest of the major chains—roughly 1,300 properties vs. Marriott's 8,500+. The card earns a Cat 1–4 free night with no top-up capability.
Key benefit
5thnight free on award stays
Book four consecutive award nights and the fifth night is free.
This is a program-wide World of Hyatt benefit available to all members. It effectively boosts your points by 20% on longer stays. Combined with Hyatt's already-high point value, this makes 4+ night award stays exceptionally efficient.
Category 1–4 free night reality
What the annual certificate can—and cannot—book.
- Works at: Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, lower-category urban Hyatt Regencies
- Does NOT work at: Park Hyatt, Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Thompson, Alila, most Miraval
- No point top-up mechanism—certificate cannot be upgraded
- Most valuable at Cat 4 properties in expensive markets (high cash rates, moderate points)
