At a glance
The card in three decisions.
Capital One Venture X is the most affordable premium travel card on the market. At $395, it undercuts the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795) and Amex Platinum ($895) while delivering unlimited lounge access, a $300 annual travel credit, and 10,000 anniversary miles. Those two credits alone offset the fee on paper, making it one of the easier premium cards to justify year after year.
But the value is portal-dependent: the $300 credit only works through Capital One Travel, and the highest earning rates require booking there too. The welcome offer currently sits at 75,000 miles—the standard level, below the tracked 100K peak. Transfer partners are broad but slightly less airline-rich than Chase or Amex; hotel transfers are notably thin with Accor at a weak 2:1 ratio.
Best fit
Travelers who want premium perks without paying $550+
Especially relevant for people who book through portals, value lounge access and can use the $300 annual travel credit.
Current timing
75K is the standard level—not the tracked best
The public offer sits 25,000 miles below the tracked 100K maximum seen at launch and during rare elevated windows.
Main watchout
Credits and top earning rates require the Capital One portal
The $300 travel credit and 10X/5X earning only work through Capital One Travel. Portal pricing may differ from booking direct.
Current & historical offer
75K is the standard offer, not the tracked maximum.
We compare public points offers with public points offers. Referral, branch, targeted and mixed cash-plus-points offers are outside this ladder.
Timing assessment
The card itself is compelling; the current offer is standard.
75K is a fine bonus—it's what most people get most of the time. But if you can wait for a 90K+ window and your planned spend timing is flexible, history suggests elevated offers return periodically.
Why someone may still apply now
A standard offer on a strong card can still be the right call.
If you have $4,000 in ordinary planned spending and want lounge access, the $300 credit, and 2X everywhere earning now, waiting for 15K–25K more miles may not outweigh the utility you'd get in the meantime.
Card benefits
Lounge access and credits define the value; protections are standard Visa Infinite.
The tiers are a Points Brief editorial assessment of decision importance and rarity among comparable premium travel cards—not labels supplied by Capital One.
Tier 1 · Rare differentiators
Benefits that set Venture X apart from most cards at or near its fee level.
Unlimited lounge access at the lowest premium fee
Venture X primary cardholders get access to Capital One Lounges, Capital One Landing locations, and 1,300+ Priority Pass lounges worldwide. No other card at $395 delivers this breadth of lounge access.
- Complimentary guests: two free at Capital One Lounges; Priority Pass guests pay the posted rate.
- Authorized users can also enroll for their own Priority Pass membership.
Know the limits: Know the limits: lounge access is not guaranteed when lounges are at capacity. Capital One removed complimentary guest access for Priority Pass lounges—guests now pay the lounge's posted rate. Capital One Lounges still allow two complimentary guests per visit. Check current terms before relying on guest entry.
Annual travel credit plus anniversary bonus
A $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel plus 10,000 anniversary bonus miles ($100 toward travel). Together they offset the $395 fee before any other benefits are counted.
- The $300 credit applies only to purchases made through Capital One Travel.
- The credit expires on each account open date anniversary; unused credit does not roll over.
- 10,000 anniversary miles start on the first anniversary and continue annually.
Know the limits: Know the tradeoff: portal pricing may differ from booking direct. If you would not otherwise book $300+ through a travel portal each year, the credit's practical value is lower than face value.
Tier 2 · Strong, but available on some peers
Meaningful ongoing value with visible restrictions.
2X Double miles on every purchase
Every purchase earns 2 miles per dollar with no category restrictions, caps, or activation requirements. A rare flat-rate earning structure among premium travel cards.
Most premium cards earn 1X on non-bonus spending. This 2X floor means even unbudgeted spending is competitive. Portal bookings earn 10X or 5X instead.
Up to $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit
One statement credit up to $120 every four years for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee charged to the card.
Standard among premium travel cards. Credit applies to whichever program is applied for first. Account must be open and in good standing when the credit posts.
Up to $800 Cell phone protection
Reimbursement for stolen or damaged cell phones when the monthly bill is paid with the Venture X card. Up to $800 per claim with a $50 deductible, maximum two claims per 12-month period.
This is the Visa Infinite standard cell phone protection. Coverage is secondary to other insurance. Certain terms, conditions and exclusions apply.
Tier 3 · Expected premium-card basics
Useful protections and services that should not drive the decision alone.
Primary auto rental collision coverage Visa Infinite

Earning rates
2X everywhere is the foundation; 10X through the portal is the ceiling.

Capital One Entertainment
Eligible ticket purchases on the Capital One Entertainment ticketing platform. Excludes Capital One Hall and Capital One Arena direct purchases.
All other purchases, every day
Every dollar earns 2 miles with no categories, no caps, no activation. The simplest earning structure among premium travel cards.
Credit interaction: Credit interaction: purchases using the $300 annual travel credit do not earn miles. The 10,000 anniversary bonus posts separately from spending-based earning. Capital One miles can be redeemed at 1 cent each toward travel purchases or transferred to partners for potentially higher value.
Transfer partners
Broad airline coverage; hotel transfers are the weak spot.
Capital One miles transfer to participating airline and hotel programs. Most airline partners transfer at 1:1. Transfers are generally final, and availability—not the transfer ratio alone—determines whether a redemption is useful.
Hotel weak spot
2:1Accor Live Limitless ratio
Hotel transfers are thin—Accor is the most notable gap.
Most airline partners transfer at 1:1, but hotel options are limited. Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards offer 1:1 transfers and can provide solid domestic value. Accor Live Limitless transfers at an unfavorable 2:1 ratio. There is no Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, or IHG transfer option. For hotel redemptions, consider using miles to erase travel purchases at 1 cent each instead.
