Closest alternatives

At a glance

The card in three decisions.

Citi Strata Premier offers the broadest 3X earning categories of any $95 travel card: air travel, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, gas and EV charging. That five-category coverage makes it easier to rack up points on everyday spending than any competitor at this fee. The $100 annual hotel credit requires a $500+ single stay through Citi Travel—not as flexible as CSP's credit, but applied instantly at booking rather than as a statement credit after the fact.

The transfer partner list is the wildcard. Citi has American Airlines—no other transferable points program does. But with 14 airline partners, it is a smaller roster than Chase (11 airlines + 3 hotels) or Amex (18+ airlines + 3 hotels)—and hotel transfers are nearly absent with just Choice Privileges and Leading Hotels of the World. If AA miles and the 3X categories align with your spending, this is a strong 4/5 keeper. If you need United, Hyatt or a deeper bench, CSP may be the better $95 choice.

Best fit

Everyday spenders who want broad 3X and AA miles

Especially relevant if dining, groceries, gas and air travel are meaningful expenses, and American Airlines redemptions matter to you.

Current timing

60K is the standard level—not the tracked best

The public offer sits 15,000–20,000 points below the tracked 75K–80K elevated range.

Main watchout

Transfer partners are thinner than Chase or Amex

AA is the standout exclusive, but no United, Southwest, Hyatt or Hilton. The hotel credit requires a $500+ Citi Travel booking.

Current & historical offer

60K is the standard offer, not the tracked maximum.

We compare public points offers with public points offers. Referral, branch, targeted and mixed cash-plus-points offers are outside this ladder.

Standard public offer 60,000 points
Current offer · standard level The most commonly available public level. This 60K offer has been the baseline since the Strata Premier replaced the Citi Premier.
Elevated offer 75,000 points
Elevated Appears during promotional windows. Independent tracking records this level as periodically available.
Tracked maximum 80,000 points
Rare elevated maximum 80K has appeared in limited promotional windows. Independent tracking records this as the highest public offer for the Strata Premier.

Timing assessment

60K is standard—worth applying if the card fits now.

60K on $4,000 spend in 3 months is competitive with Venture's 75K and CSP's 100K when you factor in the multi-category 3X earning. But if you can wait for a 75K+ window and your spend timing is flexible, elevated offers return periodically.

Why someone may still apply now

The card earns well while you wait for a better bonus.

If you have $4,000 in ordinary planned spending across dining, groceries, gas and travel, the 3X earning during the waiting period can partially offset the gap between 60K and 75K.

Card benefits

Five 3X categories and an AA transfer edge define the value.

The tiers are a Points Brief editorial assessment of decision importance and rarity among comparable $95 general-travel cards—not labels supplied by Citi.

Tier 1 · Rare differentiators

Benefits uncommon enough at this fee level to influence the card decision.

5 cats

Broadest 3X categories of any $95 travel card

Air travel, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and gas/EV charging all earn 3X. No other $95 card covers this many everyday categories at a multiplier rate.

  • 3X on air travel and other hotel purchases (booked outside Citi Travel).
  • 3X at restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery.
  • 3X at supermarkets and on gas/EV charging stations.

Know the limits: Know the limits: 3X on hotels excludes bookings through Citi Travel (those earn 10X instead). Grocery 3X may exclude superstores like Walmart and Target—merchant coding controls.

AA

American Airlines is a transfer partner

Citi is the only transferable points program with American Airlines as a transfer partner. No Chase, Amex or Capital One card can move points to AAdvantage.

  • Most airline partners transfer at 1:1 including AA, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic and Cathay Pacific.
  • Transfer times vary by partner; some are instant, others may take days.
  • Transfers are final—confirm award availability before moving points.

Know the limits: Know the tradeoff: while AA access is unique, Citi's overall partner roster is thinner than Chase or Amex. No United, Southwest, Hyatt or Hilton. Make sure the partners that matter to you are on the list before committing.

Tier 2 · Strong, but available on some peers

Meaningful ongoing value with visible restrictions.

$100 Annual hotel benefit

Once per calendar year, $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more (excluding taxes and fees) booked through Citi Travel or by phone. Benefit applied instantly at time of booking.

Unlike CSP's credit which posts as a statement credit after booking, this is applied upfront. However, the $500 minimum is higher than CSP's hotel credit and portal pricing may differ from booking direct.

10X Citi Travel portal earning

Hotels, car rentals and attractions booked through Citi Travel earn 10 points per dollar—the highest portal multiplier among $95 travel cards.

Portal pricing, cancellation policies and loyalty treatment may differ from booking direct. The 10X rate only applies to Citi Travel bookings, not direct bookings.

$0 No authorized user fee

Add authorized users at no additional cost. Many competitors charge $75–$175 per authorized user.

Authorized user spending earns points toward the primary cardholder's account. Each AU gets their own card with the same earning rates.

Tier 3 · Expected travel-card basics

Useful protections and services that should not drive the decision alone.

No foreign transaction fees Travel baseline

No issuer foreign-transaction fee on purchases made abroad. Standard among travel cards at this level.

Comparison method: General consumer travel cards around the $95 annual-fee level, including Chase Sapphire Preferred, Capital One Venture and Wells Fargo Autograph Journey; official public pages reviewed in July 2026. A public page's silence is not proof that a competing benefit does not exist.

Earning rates

Five categories at 3X—the broadest lineup at $95.

Rates shown are total ThankYou Points per dollar on eligible purchases. Merchant coding and Citi's current terms control.

10X

Hotels, car rentals & attractions via Citi Travel

Book through cititravel.com. Portal pricing and cancellation terms may differ from booking direct.

3X

Air travel and other hotel purchases

Covers airfare booked directly or through any channel, plus hotel stays booked outside Citi Travel.

3X

Restaurants worldwide

Includes takeout and delivery. Matches CSP and exceeds Venture's flat 2X on dining spend.

3X

Supermarkets

Grocery store purchases at 3X—a category no other $95 general travel card offers at this rate.

3X

Gas and EV charging stations

A rare bonus category among travel cards. CSP added gas/EV in 2026; Venture earns 2X flat.

1X

All other purchases

One point per dollar on purchases not eligible for a higher rate.

Credit interaction: Credit interaction: the $100 annual hotel benefit is applied at booking, not afterward as a rebate. Hotel bookings through Citi Travel earn 10X on the full pre-credit amount. Citi ThankYou Points are worth an estimated 1.5–1.8 cents each when transferred to partners, though AA miles can exceed 2.0 cents on premium cabin redemptions.

Transfer partners

American Airlines anchors a broad Citi network.

ThankYou Points transfer to participating airline and hotel programs. Partners without a shown ratio transfer at the standard 1:1. American Airlines is the standout exclusive—no other transferable-points program offers AAdvantage.

Unique partner

AA

American Airlines AAdvantage

AAdvantage is the anchor of Citi's transfer network.

No Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards or Capital One miles card can transfer to AAdvantage. This alone can justify a Citi card for AA flyers. Citi's public card page names AAdvantage but does not publish the ratio—verify the live rate, 1,000-point minimum and transfer rules in the signed-in ThankYou portal before moving points.
